How to Prep Your Fall Wardrobe When It's Still Hot

At the beginning of every autumn, women around the country find themselves dealing with the same problem: we’re all ready to break out fall’s cardigans, cable knits, and over-the-knee boots before the weather is ready to cooperate. This transitional phase between mid-September and mid-October always presents a closet conundrum–but it doesn’t have to be that way. It’s totally possible to prep your fall wardrobe when it’s still hot out. How? Layering, of course. If summer is the season of showing some skin, then fall is the season of playing peek-a-boo with layers. All you need is a few key layering pieces: ankle boots, over-the-knee boots, tights, a cardigan, a cropped sweater, and a fitted turtleneck can all be mix-and-matched with summer staples and new fall must-haves to create the perfect trans-seasonal wardrobe. Here’s exactly how to do it.

Augustin Swing Dress

Swing Dress
It’s not as hard as you might think to transition the Augustin Swing Dress from summer to fall. At the start of the season, you can get away with rocking summer’s favorite sundress with bare legs and your favorite fall ankle boots. As the weather cools down, play with different layers: add a pair of tights and a cardigan, or wear a fitted turtleneck underneath.

Black Wrap Top

Wrap Top
Our Black Wrap Top is an all-season staple. If temperatures are soaring, keep things cool by mixing this easy-to-wear piece with light fall print. For example, a plaid mini skirt will give the plain black top a dose of autumn style without weighing you down. When temps drop, swap out the skirt for a pair of jeans. Add tall boots, and you’re all set!

Karamo Faux Wrap Skirt

One of our favorites ways to prep for fall is by incorporating warm fall colors into an outfit. Beige, brown, and oxblood all feel cozy without actually weighing you down. The shades in our Karamo Faux Wrap Skirt will give an autumn edge to any outfit. Pair it with a simple t-shirt when the weather is warm; once those autumn winds start to blow, opt for a cropped cable knit sweater instead.

Floral Wrap Maxi Dress

Similarly, the warm peach and brown tones on our Floral Wrap Maxi Dress look chic no matter what the weather’s like. We love it with platform sandals on a sunny day, and with a short leather jacket on a chilly night.

Paisley Wide Leg Pants

These Paisley Wide Leg Pants from Veronica M are just what your fall wardrobe needs: they’ll look sexy with a slinky tank top now, and fashion-forward with an oversize sweater later.

Navy and White Abstract-Printed OTS Top

Of course, it’s easy to show off your shoulders when the sun is out–but you can totally wear this OTS Top when there’s a chill in the air, too. Pull it on over a skin-tight turtleneck and tuck the combo into flared jeans for a ‘70s look.
